Herb garden

I can't express to you how beneficial it is to have your own herb garden. I mean just look how delicious and simple it can be!

I kid, I kid! Those are actually pictures from the AMAZING Ina Garten's walled herb paradise. I'm not sure how she does it but if I had to guess, there is probably more than one gardner involved in Garten's masterpiece... Anyway, just because you don't have staff doesn't preclude you from having a cheap and easy source for fresh herbs!

The lovely thing about herbs is that, for the most part, the darn things are essentially weeds. Once you've gotten them established and worked out your own personal demons about trying to care for them too much you'll be fine. If you fuss over them too much they will literally die in front of your eyes. Try ignoring them, crippling them with basically rude pruning etc and they will prosper!

Thanks to Fancy_Pants for this beautiful picture

No need to plant every type of herb at your local nursery. Not even the big 4 of the Simon and Garfunkle song "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme" although I think those are super useful. I'd also include basil, tarragon and chives if you have room but that's just me. Pick your own favorites!

Doesn't have to be fancy either... look what I have going on at Riverhaven. It 'aint pretty but it works!

And here thanks to fiveten is a great window box version.

How about you? Are you still there or on your way to the garden center?
